This project is still a work in progress and it is based on the making of a group of paintings of different locations from the Irish West coast. Some of these locations are very traditional and touristy ones, while others are just known by the locals.
These paintings were made to fit a regular size suitcase and are hung in places that people, locals or tourists, use on a daily basis.
For the making off of this project it is of a paramount importance that the artist gets pictures of the spaces where the paintings are been exhibited, takes the addresses of the buyers and interviews those ones that take part in the process.
The purpose of this project is trying to reflect on two main ideas, the landscape and travelling as an experience and how they are related to people´s daily lives, seeing it from a mixed perspective, traditional and yet modern. Rather than the point of view in which paintings are hung in specific places, like museums or galleries, but far away from people´s lives.
POR LOS CAMINOS DE LA COSTA OESTE (2011-2012).
Este proyecto, consistió en la realización de una larga serie de pinturas que representaban diversos paisajes de la Costa Oeste Irlandesa: desde vistas convencionales con una visión típicamente turística, hasta fragmentos en zoom de vistas menos conocidas y solo reconocibles por los habitantes locales.
Por ejemplo, una de las pinturas representa un mural del paisaje de Vallybaughan (Co. Clare) y parte del Burren, realizado por un artista en colaboración con los niños de una escuela local. En otras pinturas aparecen gasolineras, cobertizos, pubs en la carretera, casas, la cascada de Aasleagh en Leennane, el famoso puente que cruza John Wayne en film “El hombre tranquilo” de John Ford, etc.
Todas las pinturas estaban basadas en documentación fotográfica realizada en numerosos viajes por la Costa, desde la Isla de Achill al norte, pasando por Sligo, Connemara, las Islas de Aran, Clare, Dingle, Killarney y Cork al Sur, entre los años 2001-2012.
Estos trabajos de pequeño formato (estaban pensados para ser transportados dentro de una maleta convencional de tránsito aéreo y así facilitar su transporte y dispersión tras su venta) fueron exhibidos en varios lugares; en espacios utilizados cotidianamente, tanto por los turistas como por los habitantes locales.
Hasta el momento se han realizado tres exposiciones con los trabajos, en 2011 y 2012 se expusieron en el restaurante Nimmos Ardbia de Galway y en el año 2013 en el antiguo local del restaurante Greene´s at Inch en Annascaul, Co. Kerry.
Se recibieron mensajes de compradores de USA, U.K. Francia e Irlanda, entre otros lugares.
